As a tribute to Elton John and Berne Taupin, Metallica risked being shushed by cranking through John/Taupin's Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding at the Library of Congress. The event was the Gershwin Award for Popular Song--quite a mouthful. Celebs mingled with Supreme Court Justices and members of Congress for what seemed to me before watching the video as a wholly awkward scene. But somehow it worked. And amazingly so did Metallica's version of the Elton John Opus. The concert will be shown in its entirety April 8th on PBS. If you know how to watch PBS...i certainly don't since I cut the cord and pay through the nose for what used to be a better way of watching TV without cable, Streaming.
