Syd Barrett Victim of CIA Psy Ops? Or Just Bad Trips

That CIA Psy Ops reference in the headline is just a shameless click bait headline. Though there's a ballbuster of a story about the CIA and LSD and cold war experiments on people, but as far as we know Syd Barrett dosed himself with the hallucinogen back in the early days of Pink Floyd. There have been quite a few songs that were ironically major hits for Floyd after the departure of Barret, veiled references to his slowly unfolding insanity like 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' and various tracks on "Dark Side Of The Moon". The irony is, Barrett, who founded Floyd with Gilmour, Mason and Waters, helped catapult them to their trippy psychedelic successes by succumbing to mental illness which his bandmates then turned into billion dollar hits. The story of how they finally opted Syd out of the band by not picking him up on the way to gigs seemed especially brutal, but at that point they were struggling from what one biographer called, "..Syds sabbatical from sanity" and how that impacted shows. The forthcoming documentary is titled "Have You Got It Yet: The Story of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd" Release dates and distribution TBA.
