Who got slapped?? This day back in 1967 the Stones, Keith and Mick were trying to board a flight for the next gig on their Euro tour through an airport in France when a couple of the gendarmes got very frisky with the boys patting them down and making them miss their flight. When they pushed back according to one version Mick got clipped in the lip, others say it was Keith who was punched in the chest. All of this, according to Mick was the culmination of the Stones, no choir boys for sure, getting raided in February of '67 after tripping balls for a couple of days. The bust led to sentences for both Mick and Keith back in the UK, but her Majesty's magistrates thought better of it, commuted Jagger's sentence threw Richard's out. I've put up some of the old timey news reels of the Stones arriving at court and later Mick's assessment of why they were being hassled. Again, not choir boys, but I laughed at one of the lists of substances confiscated: marijuana resin. Not any weed to speak of, just resin. Seems pretty hilarious and Benny Hill-esque now, but in the day the UK was out to prove a point about the moral decay caused by rock n roll. Of course, it backfired and created more street cred for the Stones and as they got huge they circumvented the tedious drug sniffing airport security with their own 737 logo'd with the the tongue and lips on it's side, a huge middle finger to the persecutors.By the way, the Queen, who was but a girl at the time her minions were chasing the Stones around, later knighted Mick Jagger. Not in person of course, that would be gauche. But he is, officially, Sir Mick. Hahaha. And oh yes, there's the little matter of the rumor that her sister, Princess Margaret bedded Sir Mick. Back when he was just Mick.
