The long-awaited 11-foot bronze RoboCop statue has finally secured its permanent spot in Detroit’s historic Eastern Market district, with installation plans nearly complete after years of delays. Once beset by legal hurdles, funding shortfalls, and shifting locations, from Belle Isle to the Michigan Science Center, the statue’s journey has come full circle.
The project began with a 2011 tweet and a grassroots Kickstarter campaign that raised over $65,000, capturing Detroiters’ imaginations and becoming a citywide symbol of community pride. Now ready for public viewing, the statue is set to be installed near Russell and Erskine Streets, where it will join Detroit’s vibrant roster of public art and welcome tourists and locals alike.
