Here's fascinating, uncut news footage from the 1977 plane crash which took the lives of five people, lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, backing vocalist Cassie Gaines, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick and co-pilots Walter McCreary and William John Gray. The album 'Street Survivors' was released days earlier with the front cover depicting the band in front of a large flame. After the crash, the band's record label changed the cover with a black, plain background out of respect to the families. The location of the crash in Gillsburg, Missiissppi has become a memorial for the band with the band's name carved into an old oak tree.
