Cobain's guitar helps mental health charity

The man who now owns a piece of rock and roll history also insisted on doing some good with his purchase. Billionaire and owner of the Indianapolis Colts, Jim Irsay was the high bidder for the guitar that Kurt Cobain used in the video that changed the world of rock at the time "Smells Like Teen Spirit". With one 5 minute music video, Cobain said goodbye to glam rock. No more leather or Aquanet hair, say hello to flannel, straight hair and teenagers screaming at the world "No we're not cool!" and that in itself is very cool. The guitar that Kurt used was sold at auction for 4.5 million dollars but part of that money was donated back by the Cobain family to Irsay's mental health foundation 'Kicking The Stigma'. Irsay is an avid collector of rock and pop memorabilia and hopes to place it all in a museum one day so we all can take a look. Ironic that the very instrument that Cobain used to display his angst to the world will now help those deal with theirs. https://consequence.net/2022/05/kurt-cobain-smells-like-teen-spirit-guitar-sold-4-5-million/
