In a recent interview with WBUR, Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton shared some new information about Steven Tyler’s health.
“Steven’s healing process is going really, really well, but it goes at its own pace,” the bassist explained. “Maybe Aerosmith will do something in the future, but it’s a big ‘if’, and the last thing I want to be doing is to try and push Steven in that direction.”
The rocker also clarified that the frontman has the final say in the band. “If we do anything in the future, it would come from him.”
In August last year, Aerosmith announced they were done with touring after Steven Tyler got injured on stage and won’t fully recover. However, in another interview, Hamilton hinted that it might not be the end of the band after all. “I find it hard to believe that we’ll never play again. I’ve been surprised by things that have happened with this band too many times to think that the future is closed.”
“It was a punch in the gut finding out that our touring days are over. Maybe someday we can do something again, but it won’t be a tour,” he added.
In September 2023, during a show, Tyler fractured his larynx while the band was getting ready to finish their farewell tour. He managed to complete the performance after falling onto a railing early in the show, but it soon became clear that a long tour with many songs was no longer possible. The rescheduled ‘Peace Out’ tour was set to kick off on September 20, 2024, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with special guests The Black Crowes.
Before Tyler decided to retire, his bandmate Steve Perry had hinted that Tyler might have some new songs ready.
