Why Steve Perry Turned Down Eddie Van Halen

Back in 1985, soon after the departure of David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen reached out to then Journey lead singer Steve Perry to see if he would like to get together for a jam session.

Perry, who was considering leaving Journey, turned down the offer because he was afraid of what it might lead to. "I was living in the Bay Area and not sure what I was or wasn't going to do anymore," Perry told Rolling Stone. "Eddie said that I should come down sometime and we should jam, have a play. Man, at some level within me I felt so honored because I was in awe of Eddie's natural talent. ... I wanted to badly to do that. We talked about how cool it would be musically."
