Tom Morello Pays Tribute To Late Chris Cornell On His 55th Birthday

Chris Cornell would have turned 55 on Saturday (July 20) if he were still with us, and instead of sharing a message of grief on his birthday, the singer-songwriter's former Audioslave bandmate Tom Morello posted an inspiring tribute to his friend on Instagram.

"My kids recently discovered Audioslave and while rocking out hard to Cochise my oldest stopped and said, 'Dad, it’s really sad that Chris Cornell is dead.' I replied, 'That is very true, but let’s keep rocking out.' And we did. Happy Birthday, Chris," he captioned a black and white photo of the late rockstar.

July 20 also marked the second anniversary of Chester Bennington's untimely and tragic death. The singer's Linkin Park bandmate Mike Shinoda shared a touching message in honor of his friend.

"I didn’t really want to post today, but I also thought it would be weird not to post," he wrote on Instagram alongside a happy photo of Bennington and himself. "I don’t want the day Chester passed to be marked as an 'event.' I’d rather celebrate his birthday, celebrate album anniversaries, celebrate the countless moments our wonderful LP family has had together. Today, just take care of yourself. ❤️✌🏽"

Cornell and Bennington took their own lives within just months of each other back in 2017. They are both missed every day.
