Chaos at Detroit Airport After Car Plows Into Terminal

Travelers at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport were stunned when a car drove straight through the entrance of the McNamara Terminal and into the lobby area near the Delta Air Lines check-in counters.

Video shared on social media showed a sedan crashing through glass doors and stopping just feet from ticket kiosks, sending debris flying and prompting passengers and staff to dive for cover as the chaotic scene unfolded. Six people were treated at the scene by firefighters and emergency personnel after being struck by flying glass and debris, though no major injuries were reported and airport operations continued without interruption.

Police quickly took the driver into custody at the scene and began investigating how the vehicle was able to breach the terminal entrance and what motivated the crash. Footage from inside the building later showed security officers detaining the driver near the damaged check-in area as bystanders watched in disbelief, and authorities have indicated the cause of the incident remains under review.

The Wayne County Airport Authority Police Department is leading the ongoing investigation into the alarming event at one of Michigan’s busiest travel hubs.
